Gee Bees Presentation: Friday, April 28th
Gees Bees a local beekeeping service will be visiting our school on Friday, April 28th for a presentation to the students. The primary presentation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 and the junior presentation will be from 1:00 to 2:00. Gees Bees will be talking about the importance of bees in our community and will give a slide show presentation. We will be asking for a voluntary $2 per child to cover the cost of this presentation. Attaching two links about a campaign being organized by Post Cereal. The campaign is to bring awareness to the global crisis in bee colonies. This could be a good media literacy tie-in or introduction to your students for this presentation.

NEW: Word Work Challenges Begin Friday!
This Friday is an exciting day in the Ocean... Each and every Friday will now be dubbed the Word Work Challenge Fridays. This means that on Monday of each week your child will be receiving their very own Word Work Challenge text, in their Ocean Binder, to practice at home throughout the week. The text has been designed not only to meet your child's current language needs, but it will also help him/her to improve their French spelling and grammar prior to graduating to Grade 3 and 4 in June. We will be reviewing your child's text daily in class together prior to our challenges on Friday afternoon. The challenges WILL NOT count toward your child's final grade this year, but their efforts will certainly help them to improve their French Language skills this year. Happy practicing! :)

Parent-Teacher Interview Requests Now Open: Be Sure to Book Early...
I am pleased to say that our school-wide scheduling process will mostly take place on-line this year using the link to the booking system below.
https://southmarchps.schoolappointments.com
To ensure you receive the interview time that best meets your schedule, we are asking that you sign up for your own interview this year- we will not be making an appointment for you. So please book fast as appointment slots are bound to get snapped up quickly.
As they have been in year's past, interviews will take place on 15 minute intervals on Thursday, November 17th starting at 4:30pm-7:15pm and Friday, November 18th from 8:30am-11:15am.
That said, Heather and I do realise that some of these times, particularly those on Friday morning do not work for everyone, either due to after school activity or work commitments, so we were able to organise our personal schedules to hopefully best accommodate your family's schedule. This year, we will be also be offering to meet with families from 4pm-6pm on Wednesday, November 16th in hopes of alleviating your stress of booking time off of work on Friday morning. If you would rather a time slot on Wednesday, please let us know at your earliest convenience. :)

Wow Work Wednesday's Begins this Week!
As I meet with all of our families this week, during Parent-Teacher Interviews, I will also be presenting you with a folder of your child's completed work so far. On each of the next Wednesday's to come your child will be bringing home a piece of their work to share with you and for you to admire and say "WOW". You may chose to hang it on your fridge or even file it away for later. Regardless, my hope is that you take a few minutes and chat with your child about what he/she is learning from each activity he/she brings home as well as use the feedback that is written on the assignment to improve as the year unfolds. Don't forget to say "WOW"!

FAQ's Regarding the Voluntary Student Levy
Every year our schools collects a $15 voluntary student levy from families who wish to contribute. This levy is completely optional and is by no means required for your child to attend South March Public School. The monies from the voluntary levies are used for special activities, events and projects in our classroom. For example, levy money could be used to lower the costs of our class field trips, it may be used to purchase special ingredients for a classroom recipe or Science experiment, it may also be used to invite talented guest speakers into our classroom.
That said, should you be interested in contributing to our student levy fund (again it is completly optional), please do so by cheque made payable to South March Public School. Thanks for your generosity!
